Professor & Director at Reconfigurable Robotics Lab, EPFL.
Prof. Jamie Paik is director and founder of Reconfigurable Robotics Lab (RRL) of Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) and a core member of Swiss National Centers of Competence in Research (NCCR) Robotics consortium. RRL’s research leverages expertise in multi-material fabrication and smart material actuation. She is a pioneer in developing self-morphing Robogamis (robotic orgami) that transforms its planar shape to 2D or 3D by folding in predefined patterns and sequences, just like the paper art, origami. Her Robogamis and in soft robotics have received international attention and press (BBC, TED, Reuters, Wired, RTS etc.). She’s an Editor and Associate Editor for multiple international robotics journals as well as an active member and promoter of soft robotics: she chaired and organized the first Soft Robotics Workshop (IROS) in 2013, opening the doors to several parallel sessions of soft robotics in robotics conferences. Her soft robots also have shown direct commercial applications attracting industrial projects and pushing for her to co-found a Foldaway-Haptics, a 3D haptic joystick that can render realistic force feedback under a fingertip.
