As a sports psychologist, Jan Mayer has long been a kind of “invisible third party” in top-class sport, a performance optimizer in the background, for whom trust and discretion are the cornerstones of his work with competitive athletes. From 1999 he looked after top athletes from a wide variety of disciplines, such as the national teams in alpine skiing, Nordic combined and ski jumping. In football he looked after all youth national teams from U-17 to U-21 as well as the professional team of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. He has been a member of the management board at Hoffenheim since June 2021.

From 2003 to 2021, Jan Mayer coordinated the sport psychological support in the top associations for the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). In addition, from 2010 he taught as a professor at the German University for Prevention and Health Management in Saarbrücken and is an honorary professor at the Sports Science Institute of Saarland University. In addition to sports psychology and training theory, his areas of expertise are also health psychology and sports in the field of rehabilitation and prevention.

At TSG Hoffenheim, Jan Mayer became managing director of the newly founded Research LAB in 2019, which works closely with the Mannheim Business School and aims to make TSG the innovation leader in professional sports. In 2021 he was appointed to the management of TSG Hoffenheim, where he will primarily be responsible for corporate development and the topics of innovation and science.
