It’s exactly one month after THE SPOT 2019 – a good time to remember some of the best moments of this year’s edition. Among the many out-of-the-box experiences, one in particular was as hot as the current temperatures in Lausanne: The Start-up Battle. Forty-two start-ups specialising in blockchain, virtual reality, data analytics, connected venue, fan engagement, performance & health and other fields had thrown their hats into the ring and it was a young company from the other end of the world, which beat everyone and walked away with CHF 5,000 and newfound fame and prestige.
Ben Reynolds from the winning start-up Spalk, based in New Zealand, said directly after the triumph:
“We saw THE SPOT as a great opportunity to get potential partners and interesting customers in one place to tell them more about the Spalk story. It was an incredible line-up of start-ups, so we feel very humbled to walk away with the big win today!”

In the preliminary rounds, Spalk had already won the award provided by UEFA. Other award partners of the Start-up Battle were Asics Tenkan-Ten Growth Catalyst, Eurovision Sport and Swiss Timing. Learn more here.
